March 24, 2009 Just a little update. The National Seashore road (399) between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach is now open. It is a beautiful drive of about 20 miles with no development. In spots, the road is within 40 yards of the Gulf of Mexico. They are in the process of restoring the pavillions and restrooms at Opal Beach, which is about half way between the Navarre and Pensacola Beaches. It is a great area for surf fishing or a beach wedding.

Also, what used to be the Navarre Beach State park has been restored and reopened as the Santa Rosa County Beach Park. It is in beautiful shape and free of charge too. There are very nice pavillions that are available to reserve for a nominal fee, or free on a first-come basis. The public bathrooms are clean and in great shape as well.
